I love almost everything about my job, so this is a difficult question! I think we talked in the chat about how boring it can sometimes be to travel for a long time, but having a project to work on makes it a little easier. Sometimes I also have to do jobs in dangerous places or use dangerous chemicals or radiation, but I have very good protective equipment and I’m very careful about safety precautions, so hopefully I won’t have any trouble staying safe.

The challenge I faced at work to teach foundation degree student without preparation. I joined my job a week ago and one of the colleagues mom passed away and to spread the pressure around all other staff members, on Monday morning when I went I been told to teach another class. It was a challenge but I quickly looked at the resources to keep the learners busy for an 1 hour. I organised a practical related to the subject and approached technician to quickly sort the equipment and print the background information. With a quick planning and organisation, lesson went well.

Scientists that work in hopsitals have to do a lot of paperwork as part of their job. This is definitely my least favourite part because it can take a lot of time and is pretty boring. But it’s also very important to make sure that our lab is working as it should. We have to make sure that all of our documents are up to date. Some documents, like risk assessments, are there to make sure that our lab is safe to work in. Other documents are procedures for our tests – they are kind of like recipes that everyone has to follow to make sure that every test that we do is the same and the same patient would get the same result if two different people did the same test. We also have to do audits where we check that everything is happening as it should and highlight any issues that should be fixed in the future. We also have to write reports from any new things that we are working on so that others can read them and understand what we did in case they have to check something in future. So scientists don’t spend all the time in the lab – we have to do lots of other things which are not always as exciting.
