There was a similar question where I talked a little bit about my PhD being very challenging. That was probably the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do professionally and it took a lot of hard work and perseverance to make it to the end.
In other spheres of life, one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do was moving here to start my new job. I lived in Scotland for many years and felt like it was my home. My friends were there, I knew Edinburgh well and I was part of many groups like orchestras. Here everything was new. I had to figure out where to live, how to get my things here, get to know people around me and the new job. I started a career in a new area of science and my job can be very demanding at times as I have to complete many assessments and meet the deadlines so it was a big challenge for me. But at the same time challenges like this ones can be very good for us to learn and grow as a person. Science often involves travelling and moving from place to place but that has its plus sides – we get to see new places and meet lots of interesting people from all over the world!
