I don’t actually work with viruses myself but there are many other scientists who are working on new vaccines and treatment for coronavirus. First vaccines have already been produced by some labs but they will have to go through a lot of testing before they can be approved to be used on humans. It will also take some time for the companies to produce enough vaccines to offer to everyone. But a lot of work is being put into all that and we expect to have a vaccine ready in about 18 months. I know that this seems like a very long time but there’s no reason to panic – coronavirus is not much more dangerous than flu. Most of us can either avoid it by washing our hands and not getting in close contact with those who are infected or, if we catch it, we may experience mild symptoms but then recover without much issues. People who are most in danger of getting seriously ill from coronavirus are those who are older and have other health issues or are receiving medication that can make their immune system less able to fight disease. This is why it is so important that we avoid spreading the virus to other people for whom it may be more dangerous than us.
