I love mathematics since I was young. I am glad I am still around the subject at work and I really use maths to do my job. I got the chance to teach children at school about mathematics in research. They were real monkeys but they were curious to know what research was all about. I had a good time with a headache too. I try too keep fit and rest well at the weekend by not doing much work and do some exercises. I like running because it is like doing moving meditation to me. I also like playing golf for the same reason.

Lovely colleagues are very important to me and I am lucky to have many in our team. We call ourselves “maemod” which stands for Mathematical And Economic MODelling. What we do are using mathematical model to understand disease epidemiology or understand how disease spread in an area. We first build a model to capture important biology of the disease and include other important factors related to human, pathogen or environment. The model we built needs to be tested by comparing it to what is really happening in form of data. Realistic model can then be used to predict the future.Sometime people say we are fortune tellers!

My usual day starts early with email checking. I want to have more time to do code writing but sometimes I cannot do thay because I have many other jobs to do. I teach and supervise many master and PhD students. Teaching is fun and very satisfying. Most of my students graduated to be teachers and researchers. I am very proud of them. I am also helping with the student affairs at the university. I have to make sure students get help if they are in trouble or if they need some support. There are many meetings in a week to go to, too many. I like going to party more for sure.
